Chiropractic X-Rays

If you’re experiencing pain in your neck, back, or other parts of your body, you may be the perfect candidate for chiropractic treatment. But before a chiropractor can provide you with the care you need, they will likely want to take medically necessary X-rays.

At O’Dell Chiropractic, we make chiropractic X-rays part of the diagnostic process.  This type of imaging allows us to get a better look at what is going on inside your body so that we can provide you with the most effective treatment possible.

But exactly what are chiropractic X-rays, and how do they work?

What Are Chiropractic X-Rays?

Chiropractic X-rays are a type of diagnostic imaging that uses low-dose ionizing radiation to produce detailed images of the spine and other bones in the body. At O’Dell Chiropractic, we use these images to look for signs of injury or disease and determine the best course of treatment.

In recent years X-rays have become a staple of chiropractic care. But why do our chiropractors use chiropractic x-rays when there are other imaging modalities that might help?

Well,  X-rays offer certain advantages that are often lacking in other imaging types. They are quick and easy to perform, usually taking only a few minutes. They are also relatively inexpensive, which makes them a good option for patients who don’t have insurance or who have high deductibles.

What Do Chiropractic X-Rays Show?

Chiropractic X-rays can show a number of things. These include:

  • The alignment of your spine
  • The presence of degenerative changes in your spine, such as osteoarthritis
  • The presence of bone abnormalities, such as fractures or tumors
  • The presence of foreign objects in your body, such as bullets or metal shards

Depending on what our chiropractor is looking for, they may order a specific type of X-ray. From what the X-ray shows, we will develop a treatment plan that’s tailored to your individual needs.

How Are Chiropractic X-Rays Done?

Medically Necessary Chiropractic X-rays are usually done in an outpatient setting. This means that you do not have to stay overnight in a hospital or other facility.

The procedure is relatively quick and easy. You will stand in front of the image receptor and our specialist will position you so that the area to be imaged is in the center of the X-ray machine. The machine will then take images of the area. This can also be used to determine a short leg.

You may be asked to remove any clothing or jewelry that might interfere with the X-ray. After we’re through doing the X-rays, you will be able to go home and resume your normal activities.

What to Expect After Chiropractic X-Rays

As soon as we have the X-rays, we review them and make a diagnosis. We will then go over the results with you and discuss treatment options.

Chiropractic X-rays are generally safe. The amount of radiation exposure from a single X-ray is very low, and the risk from chiropractic X-rays is extremely small.

If you have any questions or concerns about chiropractic X-rays, discuss them with our professionals. They will be able to answer any questions you may have and help put your mind at ease.

How Often Should I Get Chiropractic X-Rays?

The frequency of chiropractic X-rays depends on your individual situation. If you are experiencing pain or other symptoms that might be caused by a problem with your spine, our chiropractor may order X-rays to get a better look at what’s going on.

We may also recommend any necessary X-rays before starting treatment. This is because X-rays can help to rule out other conditions that might be causing your symptoms, such as a herniated disc or arthritis.

In some cases, our chiropractor may recommend getting X-rays on a regular basis. This might be the case if you have a condition that is known to progress over time, such as scoliosis.
